The deadline for entries for the Health Service Journal Awards 2011 has been extended to 22 July.

For the third consecutive year, The NSMC are proudly sponsoring the Best Social Marketing Project award. Previous winners include NHS Tower Hamlets, whose innovative work to encourage more women attend their breast screening appointments scoped the top award in 2010. During the project, the number of women being screened increased by 15%.

In 2009, Heart of Birmingham Teaching PCT's 'Gym for Free' scheme triumphed. Created in partnership with Birmingham City Council, it offers residents of Heart of Birmingham areas free access to sports facilities, provided they are used at least four times a month. As of June 2009, 75,000 residents had made use of the scheme. It is currently being rolled out across the rest of Birmingham.
